ANNOTATION: The Peter Principle and reductionist patriarchy
There is an interesting thought that occured to me in relation to two books. The first book is THE PETER PRINCIPLE and the second one is WHY MEN RULE by Steven Goldberg.
One of Goldberg's premises is that men seek out and tend to rise in a heirarchy. They (the statistical 'they') will do what is necessary to rise in that heirarchy. If the principle requirement for rising in a particular heirarchy is "brown-nosing", then the men who have selected this heirarchy to rise in will do it. If long work hours is what it takes, then a certain number of men will exhibit the characteristics necessary to fulfill this requirement. They will ignore family, frients, social life, intellectual life, etc. to rise in the heirarchy. There is a strong biological predisposition to this behavior.
The justraposition of these two books if fascinating.
