ANNOTATION: An Alternative View
I do not wish to refute the model that has been outlined, for it is functional as a bridge to a more penetrating model. I would, however, like to suggest a candidate for that more penetrating model. We should consider the possibility that the resolution of the paradox of "the One vs. the Many" lies in Bohm's suggestion that all is ultimately of one Movement - an idea complemented by Bergson's notion of time as Movement. It is the enfolding upon itself that gives rise to "subjectivity within the subject" and what appears to us as consciousness and the act of creating distinctions among things. If we consider the notion that distinction = relationship = movement, then all of the reality that we know is a vast language or "ontolingua" consisting of the mediation between Movement and itself in myriad ways - and why? To keep Movement going. And what we consider evolutionary stages are actually non-sequential, they are the "dimensions" of Movement, required to keep the "wave that carries itself" moving perpetually. Now, what has this to do with good and evil? Good is justice, and justice is transcendence - the bridging of a distinction to create new unities that themselves form the poles of the most powerful new distinctions. Evil, the experience of non-transcendence. And what is God, then? God is Movement - it is still Intelligence and Love themselves, and we, as Movement in one of its enfoldments - it is our task to enact Intelligence and Lovingness...for that is the part we play in keeping the eternal journey in motion. Thank you for your beautiful statement of Bohm, who certainly belongs in this metastructuring context. \
