Memorial da Democracia - Caso Sivam derruba ministro de FHC

Dois integrantes do primeiro escalão do governo são acusados de favorecer a empresa norte-americana Raytheon, que venceu concorrência no valor de US$ 1,4 bilhão.

A “IstoÉ” mostrou a transcrição de conversas grampeadas entre o chefe do cerimonial da Presidência da República, embaixador Júlio César Gomes, e José Afonso Assumpção, dono da Líder Táxi Aéreo e representante da Raytheon no Brasil. Os grampos, feitos pela Polícia Federal, revelaram uma rede de tráfico de influência em favor da empresa norte-americana, que envolveu também o ministro da Aeronáutica, brigadeiro Mauro Gandra. Ele e o embaixador acabariam sendo forçados a deixar os seus cargos.

Segundo revelou mais tarde o jornalista investigativo escocês Duncan Campbell, a agência nacional de segurança americana (NSA) também gravou conversas entre funcionários do governo brasileiro e da empresa francesa Thomson-CSF, concorrente da Raytheon na licitação. As informações obtidas nessas gravações teriam permitido que a empresa norte-americana fizesse uma proposta melhor que a rival para o fornecimento de equipamentos ao Sivam.

NSA Planned to Hijack Google App Store to Hack Smartphones - The Intercept

The project was motivated in part by concerns about the possibility of “another Arab Spring,” which was sparked in Tunisia in December 2010 and later spread to countries across the Middle East and North Africa. Western governments and intelligence agencies were largely blindsided by those events, and the document detailing IRRITANT HORN suggests the spies wanted to be prepared to launch surveillance operations in the event of more unrest.

The agencies were particularly interested in the African region, focusing on Senegal, Sudan and the Congo. But the app stores targeted were located in a range of countries, including a Google app store server located in France and other companies’ app download servers in Cuba, Morocco, Switzerland, Bahamas, the Netherlands and Russia. (At the time, the Google app store was called the “Android Market”; it is now named Google Play.)
